Poetry is a completely different world for some writers. It's an escape for writing out your feelings in no specific way or form. A lot of writers use poetry as an escape from reality and a way to release their emotions of feelings without having to talk to someone about them if they are personal.
Poetry, unlike other forms of writing, as no specific or required format. You can write poetry however you want, with whatever words you want. It doesn't have to make sense to anybody else, but you. This is why most people use poetry as an escape, because they don't have to think, they just write.
Other forms of writing usually have specific format, a required topic, or maybe even certain language structure that you have to follow. This gets stressful when you have to constantly think, "Am I doing this right?" or "Does this make sense?"
A poem is a piece that has emotion. They can be published, but some people prefer them to be private. Sharing poems is a form of expressing your feelings, but after writing them down, most writers feel satisfied. Overall, poetry is very different from other writing pieces.

Poetry, although the root of most forms of written art, has developed to become almost completely different from all other forms of writing. Besides poetry, I categorize writing into short stories and novels. Compared to poetry, short stories are the most similar, however they are still quite different from poetry in many ways. The two things that make short stories similar to poetry is their length is generally short and both usually tend to have a deeper meaning to them. But that is where the similarities stop. Short stories almost always have characters that develop and change throughout the story, constantly making decisions that move along the plot. A poem on the other hand relies far more on capturing one's imagination through descriptive imagery and thought provoking realizations about the world.

Novels are even further alienated from poetry thanks to their more extensive length and primary focus on plot over meaning. Novels rarely act solely as an allegory and their main objective is seldom to prove a point. Their primary focus is almost always on plot and character development. Novels try to be far more tangible. This can also be seen in the way novels are reviewed. A novel is deemed good if it has a nice plot. This is extremely different to the way poems are judged. A poem becomes successful and excepted if it has a deep and thought provoking meaning.

Poetry is different from other forms of written work by the way it is expressed. Novels can go on and on about what they wish to say, and how they are to express that feeling. Poems express themselves in a few short stanzas, give or take. Poetry, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder, meaning that poetry can be expressed in any way, shape, or form. Poetry is expressed in many ways, all of which are brought up or torn down because of opinion.

Poetry is different than other kinds of writing because it can express things that a story or essay cannot. Poetry holds a deeper mean and emotion that other written pieces. It often encourages deeper thinking and looking beyond what is there. Poetry can tell and story but most of the time it is an expression of thought or feeling that is not explained through simple phrases.

Poetry is an escape because there are no boudaries. It is the most articstic of all writing. Without poetry, we would not hae music. Music is just poetry put to a melody. Without poetry, our words would not be expressed in the deep mannor in which they can be in a few short phrases of a poem.

Poetry is different by the way that you can just write what you feel instead of having to worry about characters and setting and plot. On one side, people use story-telling as an allegory, but poetry works in the same way. Poetry however, is spitting out what you're feeling onto a page and shaping what you have into something just right. I agree with Emily that there is so specific format or topic. Not having to think is appealing to some and helps with taking away all the extra.
Poetry is a fast process to practically "throw up" (so to say) your emotions and be done with it. You can write a poem about your heartbreak and be done with it, instead of reliving the experience in a lenghty story.

Poetry is different from other writings in many ways. For one, poetry says things indirectly, leaving it up to the reader to determine what exactly the poet is trying to say. Stories and essays and other types of writing say things directly so the reader knows exactly what they are trying to say. Poetry is also different because it has a better flow and sounds nice as well. It has a better flow than other writing because it uses patterns, rhyming, etc. Poetry also uses much more skill and art than other writings do. Not everyone can have the skill of being a great poet, yet anyone can do a little research and write a great essay or story.

Poetry is very different from other pieces of literature. One reason is the length. A poem is usually very short, while a piece of literature such as a book is very long. Even though the poem is short it usually uses a lot more figurative language then a book does within many chapters.

Also, poetry enables a person to write about anything they want. They may refer back to a child hood story, describe an object, invent a story, talk about something tragic, and many more things. Another difference between other pieces of literature is that Poets can actually trigger someone’s feelings in a poem. If a good poet writes a poem about war, then he could actually influence the reader to cry. There are also happy poems, were the poet can make the reader laugh.

Basically the writing in poetry is more powerful than other pieces of literature because it can do so many things. Probably one of the most important differences is that a poem is something that anyone can relate to.
